Doorway to Tranformation Update
Below is brief report of our progress since the start of the Doorway to Transformation Initiative.
Building and Safety Systems
- Fire Alarm System has been installed and is now operational and on-line with the New York City Fire department.
- Boiler System – new copper drainage systems
- Repaired Sewer System from severe water damage during the summer storms
Basement
- The former bowling alley has been demolished and removed and the area has been cleaned out for the next phase of construction.
- Walls to the entrance to the basement (the old phone booth hall) were painted by the work group from Calvary Church.
- Removal of old air-conditioning units
Sanctuary
- Replacement of the plastered sanctuary ornaments
- Repairing the lower sanctuary walls
- Painting of Main Sanctuary walls
- Re-wiring of fixtures, sconces within the sanctuary on every level
- Re-bulbing of many fixtures with energy efficient bulbs.
Food Pantry
- New floor in pantry installed by a work group from Calvary Church of Michigan. Old rotten wood ripped out and replaced with a new pre-finished oak floor. The Food Pantry shelving was re-anchored.
Health Center
- Additional construction of the Health Center additional office space and exam rooms
- Creation of a Dental office and the installation of a dental chair.
- Creation of a mural that expresses the mission of the NLF Health Center.
Office and Work Areas
- Initiated the build out for the church office, including the moving of offices
- Constructing new office space for our expanding needs
- Construction of a copy room and work area for administrative support.
- Workshop created for building maintenance, construction and repair work
- Creation of storage areas for building materials and equipment
Main Level
- Fully remodeled historically landmarked front doors per the requirements of the city’s landmark commission.
- Repair and restoration of lobby columns, capitols were restored
- Repairing of the original chandelier in the vestibule
- Re-bulbing of many fixtures with energy efficient bulbs
- Repair of the non-working Shell Room chandelier
- Installation of sign holders for direction and traffic control
The 4th Floor
- 4th floor dormitory room doors being replaced with fire rated doors with new hardware
- Renovated approximately 250 feet of hallway/rooms in tenant area
- Renovation of bathrooms and hallways
