What happened to the funds raised during the last capital campaign, Crossroads to the Nations?

A portion of the $1.8 million went towards the down payment at the time of purchase in December 2003. Some was used for the mortgage and payment for principal. The rest enabled us to renovate about 40% of the building. We estimate that hundreds of thousands of dollars has been given in volunteer labor alone!

I sacrificed a lot during the last campaign and am not sure I am ready for another initiative?

Some of us have given an enormous amount to enable us to get to this point, and feel a need for a “break.” Others have given, but remain able and energized to give. Also, many new people have joined New Life over the last few years have yet to be invited to participate. Don’t feel any pressure. We are all in different places. Let God guide you.

What about paying off the mortgage first?

Our primary goal is to see God change people’s lives and that good stewardship extends to using this building now to impact the community. For this reason, we have decided to pay the principal down at a slower rate. That being said, our church has steadily grown in people and income since we purchased the building, and our monthly mortgage payment is well within our budget and means. For these reasons, all the funds given over the next three years will go towards renovations.

When will the building be finished?

We are not sure a building of this size is ever finished! But, assuming God provides the monies projected here, we expect to be done with these projects in approximately five years (if there are no holdups with building permits from the City of New York). We will only renovate the facility as committed funds come in. At the same time much of the labor will be done through skilled volunteers. Therefore, your pledge and involvement will help shape our timelines and realize our capacity to complete the projects.

Are there other ways to get involved?

Yes! Gifted and committed volunteers work on our building every week! In addition, many of the projects we are entering into will require electricians, plumbers, masons, carpenters, roofers, etc. Contact Russ Nitchman at 718-757-9624 and he will be able to tell you how and when they might help out.

Can I give to pay down the principal rather than towards renovations?

Absolutely! You will need to simply note that on your pledge card or notify Victoria Kolsch at the church office.
